Tom Silliman has been dancing since 1995 in social and competitive ballroom dance settings. He began with two left feet, which gave him a unique understanding of the skills necessary to feel comfortable on any dance floor. While earning his BS in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University, Tom was a member of the NU Ballroom dance Team, with whom he competed on the collegiate circuit for five years. During his ten year career in IT/Systems Administration, Tom taught at various dance studios in Arizona and Virginia, and began to develop his personal philosophy of teaching social dance. In 2008 Tom left IT to become a full time farmer, and began teaching a weekly social dance class at The Dance Barn, the studio owned by his wife, Kelly, in Stanardsville, VA. Tom and his family recently relocated to Leeds, and Tom is thrilled to be offering ballroom and social dance lessons for groups, individuals and couples at the Northampton Center for the Arts (33 Hawley St, Northampton)! His classes focus on building a solid base in leading and following, as well as a technical understanding of basic dance steps, and Tom believes that these skills allow people a greater versatility and comfort on the dance floor. His detailed explanations and easygoing manner make dance classes fun for everyone!
